Slumboat at Hampton court with pics

the tug operator asked me if he could leave it on the lock moorings
Presume there is nobody who is responsible for commercial movements ie. for hire or reward, on the navigation.
Insurance for instance.
What happens if the tug and tow causes damage to property on the river or perhaps lets say the thing sinks blocking the navigation mid stream or worse in or at a lock entrance.
The tug operator would normally negociate with his insurance company this sort of thing unless he has the sense to demand that the towed vessel has arranged his own cover.
In order to gain cover for the accomodation barge the owner would have to have an insurance survey at some point, would be interesting to find out where this was done as not aware of anywhere up there capable of hauling the thing out.
Only places can think of are tidal and anybody having anything to do with the thing including the folks moving it will be coming in close contact with the PLA.

Looks like someone is quite happily living there.

What boat do you have that this is interfering with your lock access? Must be huge.

More uninformed crap from Comrade Red.
It obscures the lock cut on approach and it isn't possible to see if anyone is moored in front of it until you're alongside. Hanging around mid stream isn't much fun with the weir on the other side, especially when it's windy.
He's right in front of the pump out, but the hose isn't long enough to reach. Which won't bother Trotman one bit.

Hang on a Mo...

I blame teddington_lock and his boss for allowing it on the non-tidal river in the first place! They should both get the sack!

They can only follow the rules as interpreted by their employer and carry out their wishes.
Unless and until somebody who is able to actually do anything about this is persuaded there is a problem it is just going to continue.
It appears nobody wants,or has the money or time, to tackle the situation.
Just too many cash strapped authorities, unconcerned organisations and uninterested parties involved.
Would CaRT be able to approach this from a different angle, not so sure .

Perhaps HM prison service would be interested in purchasing the vessels?

I'm just waiting for someone else to copy this income generating model - does seem odd that only one person (apparently) has so far seen the opportunity. I could see a lot of these boats turning up if it isn't nipped in the bud (or should that be withering flower)

If done properly, I love the Dutch idea of a Botel. London, with its overpriced Hotels and DSS B&Bs is really missing a trick.
I bet if you tried to do it legally, the councils and the EA would make your life a misery and price you out of the market. But do it Trotman style and get away with it for a decade.

There is one moored at Excel.

It's the second one. The first one went to Gib.

Just purpose built hotels made to look like ships.

Superyacht is stretching it a bit .....

Yesterday I noticed the EA's tug Falconbrok moored in the Molsey lock cut a few yards away from Admiral Trotman's flagship. Too much to hope there's a direct connection?
