So we have a clean(ish) bum - she was lifted and cleaned three months ago and had no growth other than a little slime, but she's running slower and slower.

We're a good 6 knots down and 3-500 rpm down flat out (she will just pull to 3400-3500, whereas she used to make 3800). The port engine still lags slightly.

Any ideas where to start? Filters were all OK when I checked this weekend (though I changed the primaries anyway).

Frankly unless the hull is seriously fouled I always think its the props that cause the loss of power and speed.

As its both engines affected - whats the common element that might cause a issue?

When i was lifted the other day my props and hull were also quite clean - yet I was 300rpm down.

Several years ago , in former life, we used to scrub the props on a cruise ship every week, in Mexico, and the fuel savings more than covered the divers cost after a couple of hours steaming.......

I am a little bit concerned as I also had a sealift in April and I have noticed more growth now than there was after 12 months last year.

Either there has been more sunshine since April of this year than the whole of last year and weed is growing very fast in the new warmer and sunny UK waters, or scrubbing our boats without fresh antifoul is not working.

Has anyone else with fresh antifoul noticed weed growing at an alarming rate this year ?

MF is also going slower and slower, without any apparent cause. I know it's been discused on here many times before, but after seeing all the boats here having antifoul removed, I'm going to do the same this winter. Talked to a guy doing one a few weeks ago. He said, he did not believe it either till he saw the results.

could be the copious amounts of liquid refreshment in the fore and aft fridges weighing you down Graham? :-) I prettu sure I can help alleviate the issue for you ;-)

No, ditch the 20 coats of AF and start again. Bloke says, as much as 5 knots better. Anyway theres at least two boats being done here, every time I come down.

Props cant be any different than last year, or any other year, fouling must be about the same. I't has to be sumate different.

If you've discounted hull or prop fouling, then have you got clean fuel and air filters? Also get the injectors checked, if they're hosing then it would give the symptoms you have. Have you noticed more soot on the transom?

Hi

'but I'm pretty sure we've not added that much since I last had a clear out.'

But how much is 'not much'? (welding kit????)

Joking apart, the first thing I would is as already mention, you need a bottom clean - the boat that is!! Then I would start to worry about other reasons but I would think that this is the problem lies.

As MJF says, could be prop related.
I had similar problem, starboard could make about 3500 RPM and port 3300.
On lift out the starboard props had some damage so I reckon the port engine was having to do more work. New props on both saw boat going ballistic all the way to 3900RPM on both engines.

Good luck

Eddie

Worth checking your engine blowers.

I have two, one should be cross wired so one sucks and one blows.

The blower wire had come off so all the clean air was getting sucked out.
