Re: Acess forbidden

Dear MapsiM

Tried to follow your link and can't.
Do you give out permission specially or does it need a tweak ?
then again you may not have the time spare considering how long it must take to varnish all that stuff seen in piccies of gangway and davits.

Re: Acess forbidden

Hmmm... You're right Anthony, the link doesn't work. And no, I'm not managing a security system on my site...
...prefer to spend spare time boating (1st of all), then wandering around the forums when the time is not enough to reach the marina, and yes, occasionally playing around with piccies - but it didn't take that much!
I'm not mentioning the other hobbies, because as somebody said, whatever is good in life is either immoral or fattening... (he was an english writer as I reckon, possibly someone might correct me if I'm wrong).

Back to the link stuff: surprisingly, if you put directly the link in a browser window, it works!
To show the link behind the description, you can right-click on it and select "Properties". Anyhow, here it is:
http://web.tiscali.it/mapis/Sausalito.jpg
Seems that my ISP refuses the connection when the links is requested from within another site.

Could that make sense, if there is any technology wizard around?

Thanks Anthony for reporting, anyway.

Re: Part Sicilian ?...

OK, I must admit that I have no experience of those places which you mention.
Hope I'll have the opportunity to try them, sooner or later.
But I remain convinced that they can't beat the beauty of the sea around Sicily!
Wish I could go there more often...

Re: Part Sicilian ?...

Mafioso? Mafia? Wotzat?
You won't believe all those american films on these subject, will you?

Jokes apart, believe me, I don't have any interest in sponsoring Sicily and/or Sicilian.
But in that land you can find some of the best sea spots in the med, and some diving places which you would not imagine to exist apart from tropical seas.
Besides, most of the local people are very nice and kind (not all of them of course, but I never found such situation anywhere else).
Last but not least, you can get excellent food and wine for veeery reasonable prices.
To me, it's enough to include it in my favourites list for possible retiring/leaveaboard places.

BTW, Colin, you overestimated my english.
Don't have a clue about what "posting dinnit" means.
Need help before starting the mafia thread!

Cheers, Mario.

Re: Part Sicilian ?...

Sorry! it should have been "posting didn't it" I was using a fairly well known dialect called slang! I intend to visit Sicily next year, after wintering in Barcelone, I will cruise around Corsica, french and italian rivieras' and sardinia, elba and maybe winter in Sicily, know any good/safe places to winter, I am a liveaboard, but have to go away to work, so I must know the boat is safe and won't be stripped whilst I'm away! I like good food and good wine and tend to mix fairly well!

Re: Part Sicilian ?...

Is Dom the owner? I've got a complaint for him!
Never found his (very good, as far as I read in the forum) products around in Italy.
I'd expect the market potential to be interesting enough to distribute them over here...
...possibly a good point for negotiating/reducing his offer !?...

Re: Access forbidden

Mario

NB I have corrected my own spelling of access and yes I am a nitpicker

Doh!! I did look at the properties of your link but lack the lateral thinking to try cutting and paoting into the browser and, of course, you are right it works.

Now Sausalito, the only one I heard of is in the Bay Area north of the Golden Gate but didn't you say you were in Italy?
My mate would be v interested to know because it took him years to find out what a Sausal was ( -ito being the diminutive form) and he says it is spanish either for a small sausage or clump of trees. Any ideas?
As he is a computer communication wizard, I'll ask him about your ISP

Re: Part Sicilian ?...

Well, actually there are not so many private marinas in Sicily, and I wouldn't leave the boat unattended in public harbours.
This is one of the best imho: Marina di Portorosa 38°07,60 N 15°06',72 E
Not sure whether they have an internet site, could be worth a search.
Nicely located, and some of the most beautiful islands within easy reach - 20 miles or so.
On the other hand, the nearest airport (Catania) is not very near: some 120 km, just partially on motorway.
Regarding food & drink, no need to mention any specific place - just look at those restaurants where mostly local people are eating, and you can't be wrong.

Incidentally, I'm also considering to move from Adriatic to Tyrrhenian sea during the next season.
Let's see, if we both confirm our plans we could possibly have a glass of marsala together.
Guess you've got a good experience on porto - and there are some which are great indeed - but I know a few brands of marsala which are worth the comparison!

Bingo!

Not sure about where the name comes from, but yes, the picture was taken in that village near San Francisco.
Nice, isn't it? Though, I have to say that overall I wouldn't exchange a life in our good old Europe with a life in the US.
And I think that many people here in Italy who are complaining about their Country, have just no experience of the alternatives available throughout the world.
Having said that, SF bay is one of the really nice US places, IMHO.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion re. the link; in the meantime, since I can't make it work, I tried to make it funny...

Re: Bingo!

Cheers Tony, nice of you to host my pic!
Actually, I already knew your very nice site, and posted a couple of other pics already.
I just did not think about using it for the link...

BTW, in the next couple of weeks I'll be off to Croatian coast. Hope to come back with some nice pics to post.
Just a proposal: wouldn't be nice to organize sub-albums split by areas?
I'm maybe wrong, but I always assumed that the boaters community is made of people who love the sea in the first place, more than the boats themselves...
Besides, that could be the starting point for a sort of "Internet guide to the best boating spots" - I've not found anything like that around so far.
