hello
Need an advise for an old truck
after reaching to a normal temp' operation, if i turn off the engine, its impossible to start it.
the starter is rotating the engine very slowly.
if the engine getting cold again, then i start it easily
the engine works with a 100 amper battary and there is no problem on cold start even on very cold weather
is this a too small battary or i have another problem?

could be the engine and/or battery earths - try disconnecting and cleaning the earth bonding straps and their connection points make sure theres no grease etc. Maybe replace the engine bonding strap if its exposed to the elements.

If its really old ? High hours ? Or milage ?
Then I suspect it a function of the above combined with an overheating issue -head gaskit or /and coolent issue .

What happens is the pistons expand with heat soak when off -become tight -real tight ( poor oil too )
So starter motor has more friction -turns slowly .
When clap cold it all loosens up -hence turns over seemingly normally .
Internet Dx with limited info always difficult with out eyeballing .

my thoughts when i first read it

thanks for the replies
a month ago i bought new cables and new clamps for the battary, also changed the conectors to earth and starter to new ones.
before fit it, i made sure that the chasis is clean and put new bolts. that made a good change in the rotation speed of the starter when cold,
but still on hot start the engine rotates very slowly and won't start.
about the engine temp', the engine does not loose any coolant and the temp is stable in the normal operation temp zone, even less - the engine works
without a thermostat because i dont know the right part No. i need. and i have a new working temp' gauge
so it doesnt reach to overheating temp'.
after many hours repairing this engine, this old truck runs great, but this is a real problem
if i turn it off it wont start.
can anyone with a similar engine tell me what is the size of the battary he combined to this engine?
is this a rare problem on this engine, or some owners know it?

When the engine is hot try to turn the starter motor ( it should have a square drive on the end ) it could be getting tight. I have had this on an old ford, just took it apart oiled the shaft bearings, good as gold.
