Hi guys,
Back from the boat with some pictures. I believe I have cable steering with power assist.... See photos attached.
I could add as well there is a free play of 3-5cm in the steering wheel ... not an issue but guess this is common to cable steering as well. So where do I start trouble shooting ? please ?
First try removing the cable from the power assist ram and check for any faults then you could strip the the steering helm clean and regrease it but ideally you want to check if the spiral cut wheel has a worn section where the cable engages at mid stroke and if so replace the helm as you probably won't get a spare gear
Alternatives are to replace either both cable and head ,fit hydraulics or live with it
Ha ha - yes I appears I may have wash my only pair of undies ---good spot
Just seems odd to have PAS pump , hydraulic ram , Autopilot pump + hydraulics. ----and No hydraulic steering @ the Helm .
My Kad 300 set up circa 2003 was fully hydraulic .
It went "slobberly " occaisonally -due to low fliud at the helm -so just topped it up ---all ok
Thought Windy build decent boats ? If it's true I,am surprised its a cable set up .
