Slipper launch

Just been up the Thames to Windsor and back this weekend and seen quite a few of these slipper launches or Gentlemans launches.
I just wondered if anyone knew what the construction of these are . What woods are used , are the newer ones if any made from ply ? (The hull that is )
What ever they are they look great dont they .

Theres a 20'/22' KENNET SLIPPER LAUNCH on that site as well !

Look, up near Maidenghead theres a guy called Parkinson or something with one. He's a couple of doors down from Rolf Harris and a bit further upriver is Paul Daniels and I think Rudi Geller's getting in on the act at Sonning. With prospective company like that you're going to have to snap out of the 'stopping for a few beers' routine.

(Just up past Reading is some geezer called Coll but you can ignore him cos he prefers messing with engines all the time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

I didnt say Rolf had one ....just that he was a couple of doors up from Parky.
he's got a stone statue of himself down by the boathouse....the Rodin's Thinker one.....
Dont think I'd want 'im to paint a slipper launch tho.....6" brush and distemper not that good for a mirror finish /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Those selway fisher designs are dead easy to follow. Would make a nice winter project if you had the space. I've got a 1.8 ltr turbo escort diesel engine knocking about doing nothing!!!!

Crikey. Slap that in, knock up a whaletail spoiler and pick out a cove line in neon colours, and I'll put in a 12-speaker, crossover controlled 1kW audio system - it'll be the wickedest set of planks ever to burn about just off Southend.
