Slinging the hook

it always seems amazing to me that not many people these days seem to use their anchors. I sail on East Coast and we have some brilliant anchorages, but invariably not many people seem to use them, instead they will all be rushing off to pay a fortune just tie up onto a floating pontoon.
I suppose the downside to this question, is if everybody used their anchors I probably and be able to find a place to anchor myself .

Should of seen Studland near Poole and Poole harbour during the summer bank holiday. I have never seen so many boats at anchor. we had to go and find somewhere else quieter!

We visited one of your East Coast creek anchorages off the Medway last summer and what a peaceful night we had. It was a brilliant stopping off point for going up the Thames to St Katherines Dock. Our mistake was not to spend a couple of days exploring the creeks on our way back down. Instead, after a night in Gillingham marina, we hot-footed it to Dover, where we got weatherbound for three days.

Exactly.....In Poole you'll always find somewhere quiet if you try. Did you consider just round the corner at the north of Swanage bay? .... OK I should keep quiet, but would rather share it with friends.

Its great fun in Lulworth watching anchors being laid, pulled up, re-laid somewhere else then repeating the performance for a third time before giving up and heading to Weymouth for the night.
A lot of them sport Blue Ensigns as well. Maybe it’s a case of “No Anchor Balls”!

Yes, well. I didn't suggest Lulworth. ( the N.E. corner isn't too bad if you can dry). Send them to Portland (the proper outer harbour) with a good westerly. I'll stick to Worbarrow. ..... or Chessill in an Easterly.

People and boat watching you canny beat it.

I like meeting people in marinas though ( best place the shower block ).

Unfortunately living in them is like being in a chalet at Butlins.

Thanks for the input. As or blowing up the dingy I agree it used to be a pain,but now.....I have davits.Brilliant.
