Slide show of cabin headlining job (Westerly 31 Longbow)

Looks great! I like the slide show method rather than those horrid DIY vidios that people make. It would be nice to be able to walk through each step at ones own pace as I found I had not time to read the text.
personally I would not have used wood effect on the roof........how would you know if the boat inverted which way up you were? !!

Thanks for watching pcatteral! haha good one! :D
I removed any varnish from interior woods and everything is just treated once in a while with teak oil. Since no UV inside the cabin the color is preserved ( not turning grey).
Another reason i choosed wood for headlining is for condesation reasons . I feel that specially unvarnished wood helps to keep the humidity levels down. Well i may one day varnish everything though if get bored!

Why did you use strips of foam to hold the velcro which the wood hangs from? The reason Westerly headlinings usually fail is because the foam deteriorates and the vinyl falls off. Did you consider epoxying the velcro direct to the fibreglass?

The kind of foam that detiorates is polyurethane if i am not mistaken..which is converting into dust after years. The plastic i used is polyethylene that can be used under laminate floors, or even to protect fragile objects in genaral. Its more like pvc that will last for ever.
The reason i didnt attach them directly at the top is because the fiberglass surface was very uneven and the plywood stripes would not fit smooth. One would be lower or higher than the neighbor one etc. With the foam stripes everything got down 5mm and plywood stripes fit next to each other 90% i would say.

Thanks for posting Akestor, might use some of your tips when I come to do the saloon of my Longbow.
I did the fore cabin last winter using insulation and van lining carpet. It looks tidy, much better than the B and Q carpet tiles which a previous owner had put up.
Just a thought, are you in the Westerly Owners Association? They would welcome your contribution.
