sleipner/side power remote control systems - generally reliable?

Ours has worked intermittently since fitted, installed a new battery this year, worked fine when testing. When came to use as single handed, it refused to work, I was thinking is it me not operating correctly. But interesting that others are having problems, I only use it maybe couple of times a year when being lifted out or dropping back in single handed
Update fitted a new battery to receiver, works fine now was not aware receiver had a battery as well as remote

presumably you are talking about a different transmitter/receiver to the one I have, as my receiver definitely (or at least the docs dont mention any battery) does not have its own power source?

Identical to mine..
what type of battery was the one you replaced? maybe a flat disk thingy like in pc units used for running the clock? tbh I don't see what theyd use it for, maybe store settings for the remote buttons combo but that wouldn't make the system work intermittedly, it would fail to run full stop as in various garage remotes.

Sorry for not being clear: Identical to mine as I have no battery in the receiver (base) either - only in the remote (transmitter) as pictured in #26.
The base stores the settings even when not powered, presumably in a non-volatile (EP)ROM of some sort.

If a battery replacement could solve the problem, I'd expect the manufacturer to point to his before replacing the kit.

If interested the manual is here

I know this is an old thread but probably relevant for me to add that I just installed a Sleipner remote and it isn’t working.

The installation appears simple enough, there are two sets of male and female plugs for the bow thruster control and another pair for the stern thruster all clearly marked.

The unit first came up with a flat remote battery code. I replaced the battery and it lost its pairing. I paired the remote again, but still no action on the thrusters.

I have contacted the supplier and await a response.

The Sleipner website doesn’t have anymore information than the very basic troubleshooting section in the manual.

No problems with mine so far from the reliability point of view but not being able to control engine/gearbox is proving a bit of a pain. I had a play with a Dockmate on another boat while I was looking around and it was a different league but it was ~ 14 times the price. My still go that route later if I’m feeling flush. The market reaction to Biden stepping down has been mixed but here’s hoping for some positive.

I am glad your works and hopefully I have a simple solution to get mine to work.

Mine has been fine since I replaced the remote control a year ago. I guess the first remote must have been faulty

Only thing I can add to this is that we have discovered that the intermittent fault on my remote is due to damp. the so called waterprof gasket isnt and any sort of moisture sends it crazy. Drying it out solves the problem for us. Still cant see anyway of buying a spare remote so if anyone knows how to do that let me know or if anyone has actually used an ebay cheapie on a sleipner system then also interested

I have found a solution without any response from Sneipner or the reseller.

It is embarrassing as I missed the part in the instructions that say that there needs to be a common negative between the thruster and the remote power supply.

As I was testing the receiver location before running the wiring, I used a portable battery to power up the remote.

The remote works perfectly on my quick test with sufficient range.
