I am having problems with my sleipner 55 bowthruster.

Every now and then it just stops working. The motor will run but the propeller will not.The boat was out of the water recently and i checked the shear Pin which was ok .I also brought the battery to a shop to be tested and they have said it's ok ?.Just today i tested the thruster again, worked for a few seconds and then stopped, battery alarm went off.Is it the battery thats causing the problems.

Any ideas please

I have the same thruster which has always been very good (if a bit noisey). Osmotech are the local agents to me (based at hamble) they are always helpful and keep the spares.

I suspect someone on here will be able to give you some pointers on how to test and find the fault.

Let us know what you find.. good luck with it.

I had similar problems - got a lot of useless expensive advice from AD in Cherbourg then when I got back to La Rochelle replaced the control unit - the pad with the buttons and the problem went away.

The control panel (joystick) is a cheap thing around £100 to have on board as a spare. When mine went I had a marine electrician spend a couple of hours on board with all sorts of meters trying in vain to find the problem. Thankfully he never came back. Spoke to Mike at Osmotech, he recommended a new control panel which is simple to fit and that solved the problem straight away
