Hi All,

I have just fitted our berths with Ikea laminated curved Birch bed slats, these have increased comfort and virtually eliminated condensation (£9.00 a bunk!)

Does anyone have any ideas/tips on replacing the foam? Again I had wondered about buying foam mattress from Ikea and cutting to size.

It seems to me that the Ikea stuff is good value!

Am I missing the point here? Is the stuff not suitable for the 'marine environment'?

Cheers

Brilliant!

The find of the century.

I always said that they would never get me in to an ikea store. Now I must.

Sounds great. Did they just fit (i.e. were you lucky) ? We have an awkward sized and tapering double berth fitted to the curve of the hull and would need to cut to fit.

Did you do this or has anyone else ? I know the expensive marine version on the forum the other week talked about cutting to fit but we'd have to buy a double to fit a space just over a single which seemed pricey at the marine prices.

As you get them they will get stiffer. might make for an odd sleep, but at £9 a bunk you could experiment by planing the shorter lengths down a bit?

They make 3 widths, 700, 800 and 900 mm wide, all sold in sets for a 2 metre bed.

The ends of each slat are secured in a rubber foot. To make a double just buy two sets then cut them to length as required.....................easy!

Oh and the 900mm sets are more expensive...........£12.00 a set!

Cheers
