slappy night

you know when the waves are just the right height to slap under the chine? Tonight is one of them. Tis OK I'm about to retire to the aft cabin :)

Yes I know exactly what you mean, I ended up moving to the mid cabin in my boat last night due to those annoying little slappy waves!

on one occasion a few years ago in SOF, I've seen a german made product / solution for that,
sort of a plastic blanket that is fixed under the bow, with ropes going over the bow
I forgot how it was called,
looked uggly

There's one radical solution to this problem: a timber boat built with almost 2 inches thick planks, and a displacement hull with an extremely deep V at the bow.
The difference is indeed day and night, and when you actually can hear the slapping in the bow cabin it means that it's time to pull the hook and move elsewhere anyway.
Mind, I accept that there are other drawbacks with such choice... :)

+1 love the sound of the water on the hull.

There is a certain type of wave, or more accurately I guess wavelets, that when trying to sleep in the forward cabin of my boat make an unbelievably annoying (quite loud) slapping noise. It doesn't happen very often, but last night was one of those nights!

I love the sound of water on the hull as well, it's calming relaxing and just generally nice but it needs to be the right short of noise if you know what I mean! Water slapping against the chine just keeps me awake :)

Had a very quiet night last night in Mercury, a little lumpier tonight in Port Hamble.

Like others I like the sound of the water on the hull but several large brandy's helplol
