Having had Rubber Duck kitted out with the latest sat TV gear, how the hell do we get a sky card for the boat. Sky insist it must be connected to a phone line to qualify for multi-room subscription, which I explained I don't want, they then said I must pay in full for my sky box, which I already have. They then said can't be done as they are either to thick or not adequately trained, or both. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

when on the phone explain you have a second hand box that is outwith warranty / advertiser discount period and just want a subscription, tip- ask to speak to a supervisor, the accent should change from bangldesh to scottish, given the state of our recent electoral process both third world countries.

There is a way to take your viewing card from home to the boat and keep all the premium channels you pay for, but its bluddy complicated. I found a very obliging Satellite nerd who spent 3 hours setting it all up for me and it works fine. I can pm you some details if you want, but you will need to be, or know, someone who can do all the techie stuff.

Presumably a dreambox or some other satellite box with a dragon cam? Certainly works for now - but it would be much better if Sky would provide an official NDS cam...

Yes, a dreambox. I would happily give all the details here to stop Sky ripping off boaters by making them pay twice for the same programmes, but i'm not sure YBW would thank me for it, and more to the point i've no idea how to do it (I just watched someone else)

oooooh I didnt see one of those big domey things on Rubberduck when I saw you saturday!! is this something new or is it a stealth ariel /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

I have to say that I would not mind digital TV not too bothered about sky - but normal TV reception in EM is pants at the best of times .....

see you at the Marina sometime soon

It's no big deal if Skybox not connected to phone line once installed. But I understand it does need to be connected to complete the installation - get it installed at home, then take the box to the boat!

Sky keep complaining that our boxes are not connected to phone line (they are, and always have been - but that is another problem!). All that happens is they charge us an extra 10 quid, viewing package and multi-room are no t affected.

we just take the card from home, pop it in the digibox and away she goes! what's the fuss?

How does that work then?
My home SKY card only works in my home box.

That doesn't work for encrypted premium channels - where the card is tied to the box id. The Dreambox (stricly the dragon CAM it has) allows you to set the box id - so you can set it to the id of your sky box at home and the card then works in both boxes even for premium channels.
