When did indemnity insurance come into the discussion, the question was, 'is it safe'.The fact that an alleged commercial skipper was prepared to almost certainly risk his professional indemnity insurance says nothing at all. There are plenty of ‘amateurs’ who deliver boats very cheaply or for nothing at all. (I know as I’ve been undercut by just such people). Find me a professional skipper who is prepared to deliver a boat cross channel single handed and show us his indemnity insurance that covers such a contract. I don’t believe you’ll find one.
I think you need to take a reality check about risk and reward regarding an expensive asset.
I’ve no desire to enter the debate about the skipper the OP hired as I suspect the forum is being used in a manipulative way.
Insurance came into the discussion when it was pointed out that there are 'professional skippers working commercially' and 'odd jobbing amateur skippers who will take risks and do deliveries on the cheap'. You didn't appear to know the difference. I don't believe that any commercial skipper worth the title is going to do a cross channel trip single handed and I've given you some reasons why. When did indemnity insurance come into the discussion, the question was, 'is it safe'.
Anyway, many "delivery skippers", will ask the owner to get their insurance to cover a trip.
As long as it is covered, then everone is happy.
