you might be safer to check on car hire drop off in Ulapool , it is just a small place .

I imagine that Inverness is probably the closest to Ullapool for a car hire drop off.

Crime rate for Ullapool is either -30/sqkm or +30,000,000/day/sqm... depending on if you consider the midges to be committing GBH... (shouldn't be too bad in March/April).

It's more the fact that Ullapool is in the back end of nowhere (except to my friends on Little Loch Broom, for whom it's the Big City) and seems to have just one locally-owned car hire place. Expedia confirms that none of the national companies will do one way hire there.

However, you can get a taxi there from Inverness for £100 and you can get to Inverness by plane, train, coach or one-way car hire ...

Only on school days - the timetable shows 2 per day (Mon-Fri only). Different times on school/non-school days.
