skindles roof collapse

It should have been pulled down years ago.

"SBDC has said it would prefer the hotel be refurbished and any demolition plans would need to be 'robustly justified'."

What planet are they on?

I don't think there will ever be a demand for a hotel there, but maybe a restaurant and bar at best. Failing that at least knock it down and build some houses / apartments / offices there.

Skindles was our local hang out at weekends. Many fond memories and some I don't remember due to having a 'really' good time.. :D It's a shame nothing was done earlier to restore it for use as a hotel or club/restaurant...

It now looks awful. Knock it down and build something useful. I would buy a nice two bed with mooring.. ;)

I remember it as a lad in the 50s when it was considered somewhat risque to go there, popular with Cads who wore suede shoes, drove MG TDs/TFs and were divorcees.

BoatOne did say:

"Without going into too much detail Skindles played a 'significant' part in my yoof "

but I couldn't possibly comment!

Naaah! Not Tony. He was a virgin until he was 28 and after trying it for the first time didn't ever do it again. I asked him why and he said "it made his bum sore"

An interesting coincidence that Skindles is just a sort walk across Maidenhead Bridge from the former Guards Club. And we all know the role that it, the Guards and their 'companions' played in the development of Maidenhead from insignificant to significant town!... ;)

A true tale of Passion:

I recently overheard Boatone telling a close friend about an early experience with a young lady many years ago, where they went around the back for a little hanky panky!

A year later, they married, and after a major anniversary, decided to return to Skindles many years later to recreate the magic moments they shared all those years ago, whereby he leaned against the wire fence just as they did when they were younger, and embraced as lovers do.

Afterwards, when he asked Mrs Boatone what she thought of their passionate experience, she revealed that he was far more animated than the first time around when they first met, and suggested it must be because he was so turned on thinking of the fond memories.

No, it wasn't that, he said, it's just the bl00dy fence wasn't electrified back in 1952!!!
