does anybody know if i can buy a skin fitting stop end , and if so where ,thanks. Kieron
i have just found a whole in the hull of my boat (recently acquired) it was filled with a piece of wood that had been cut with a whole cutter leaving a drill hole in the middle and that was filled with some sort of filler ,its 1 3/4 inch diameter and im thinking it must at ome time have been a skin fitting so if i can find a skin fitting with a stop end this would effect a good quick and permanent repair, or any better ideas.

I'd buy a small glass fibre kit and fill the hole.

Most chandlers stock end caps, so buy one with the skin fitting. But you may struggle to find the 1¾" size. If you can make it 1½" that would be easy.

A 1 1/2” skin fitting will not fit in a 1 3/4” (44.45mm) hole.
Or is it the wood plug that is 1 3/4”? If so, likely the hole is slightly smaller, could be meant for a 1 1/4” skin fitting (41.91mm).

Some of the answers depend on the yacht being slipped and some of those answers might not work - unless the glass fibre kit is for underwater application.

As you don't define what you actually have.... maybe if you go to your local DIY store and look at plumbing fittings - they might have what you want, or not.

If the yacht is out of the water you could be really original and take a few pictures, inside and out, and then post them. Answers would then be specific.

I've got away with using a 1½" skin fitting in a slightly larger hole. The overlap on the outer end of the skin fitting, and on the inner nut, should be enough to give a secure hold. It might even be possible to add washers to help this.

The skin fitting should be centred in the hole and GRP resin poured around to fill up the space, before screwing down the inside nut. If the fitting is going to be used (as in my case), a backing fibre-glass patch is also advisable.

Thanks very much for your replies ,i do think that in the long term a fibre glass repair is probably the best but for speed i was thinking that a skin fitting would be much easier and quicker to do. there is also the dreaded silicone liberally applied around the area so cold require some minor surgery to get a suitable surface to apply the resign too. Thanks again .Kieron
