I'm in the process of fitting a Raymarine auto pilot to my (new to me) Skilso 975, the existing helm pump was made by Bosvik, Norway. The helm pump has an EB550 sticker on it and the cylinder has EB55.

Anybody familiar with Bosvik (internet search shows them not involved in the marine market anymore) ie

Does the EB550 have non return valves, and what is the cc capacity of the EB55 (or KGm)?

A type 1 hydraulic motor has been fitted, but when the autopilot was tested hydraulic fluid spirted from the air vent in the cap on on the helm pump. Could this be that the pump does not have non return valves or maybe that it is not functioning properly. The steering works fine when the autopliot is disengaged.

Any help much appreicated.

Sounds like you do not have non return valve fitted on the helm, What you need to fit is a "twin pilot check valve". Buy it from a good hydraulics suppler around £26 or go for Vetus and spend "hundreds of pounds". I spent £26 and it works :)

Still supply to the marine market through their mechanical division (lower profile section) ... so get in contact and I am sure my fellow Norwegians will respond... failing that i can help you out if you tell me which section you wish to have translated... but better from the supplier as they will have additional technical info available for you ....

Thanks Alf, I sent an email 28th July but have not received any reply yet. I don't really need the whole document, just the bit about the helm pump EB550. Best regards, Denis
