In 1815 the US brig 'Commerce' (Captain James Riley) was wrecked on Cape Bojador, West Africa.
This book describes their attempts to save themselves in a badly damaged boat, their capture, enslavement and ill-treatment by nomadic tribesmen, and so on.
A 'good read', in my opinion.
