Changing the impeller and I managed to drop one of the machine screws holding the face plate onto the pump. It must have entered the Bermuda Triangle as it has disappeared completely in a clean empty bilge but that's another story.

Local swindlery didn't have suitable replacements so thought would be able to order online.

However, can't locate any from any Volvo supplier so will probably need to get from a generic supplier. When I measured I thought it was an M4 10mm slotted pan head but I'm not sure what it was made from and am wary of just ordering any old metal in case they are not compatible.

So

Does anyone know where I can get the genuine machine screws or if not, is bog standard stainless suitable??

Good time to replace it with a Speedseal - then you won't lose those silly little screws in the future!

I replaced all mine with stainless steel socket head screws as it makes it easier to locate the screw heads in rough water if one has to replace them at sea.
An allen key fits in the top rather than a screwdriver which might slip from a slot.
plus you are less likely to damage the heads if a bit clumsy
i also have a few spare screws along with an allen key & an impeller fixed right by the pump

I guessed M4, so glad to see you have confirmed it. Mine look like brass, the body and face plate are definitely brass, but stainless ones will do no harm as they are not in contact with the water.

Yes I think mine are brass. Although looking at the part that stork highlighted it may actually be solid gold!! £6 for a set! 20p each for similar in ss from swindlery.

Thanks for the advice though vyv. Good to know I could put in ss.

I had enquired about fitting a speedseal on my md1 pump as I'm almost certain to do the same as the op due to poor access. Unfortunately speedseal don't do one for this pump. I was wondering if i could at least fit thumbscrews as an improvement. But where could i get some?
I was thinking that. I had seen the new speedseal advertised where it claimed improved impeller life even if you do run dry so will think on that.
