If I go with that consensus - what are the pros & cons of open vs closed arrays ?

Obviously on a mast you cannot use an open array, but on a pole at the back - why not. Lots of people have wind chargers there which are much more likely to catch ropes and decapitate crew.

Many thanks again to all who have replied. I have made the decision and am going for a pole mount on the transom.

There seemed to be more plusses than minuses, the only real minus is the appearance which is more obtrusive than a mast mount, anyway decision made. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
