I know it has been mentioned on here before ... but he does seem to be plagued by electronic problems and apparently rather more so than his competitors ....

Doesn't this raise the question of his competence in running these "gizmo's". I know it is a very harsh environment, but the volume of failure either points to poor installation (tiller pilot cabling!! Doh!) or someone who doesn't understand the technology and inadvertently causes the failure... ?

I admire the chap - and wish I was out there ... but sometimes I think you just have to accept that "up-to-date technology" is a little beyond your capabilities - and as seen here, you'll spend more time on the phone to IT support than using the kit ...

Do you think he gets put through to an Indian call centre??

"Thank you for holding. Your call is very important to us, please put in a reef until we can connect you"
"Thank you for holding. Your call is very important to us, please have your serial numbers to hand"

You would expect the technology to work. An airline pilot dosn't have to spend half the flight repairing his instruments. I know it is a harsh environment but that is what the kit is designed for. The names of the equipment suppliers should be published so we know who supplies equipment not fit/installed well enough for purpose.

From the press release..

"Don' t tempt me to go into electronics, but a new Fleet 77 system and new Iridium system, both installed by the experts, and neither working, is moderately infuriating. I am the one suffering and I am the one put at risk.. "
