I just bought a couple of new basin wastes (plug holes to normal folk!) for the boat that look like these. They don't have a screw in the middle like some others, instead the top part screws into the bottom part. I plan to put some silicon sealant under it but am worried that will result in losing the fairly small amount of friction I will have to do the screwing. The cross in the hole is fairly thin so I imagine that would strip out immediately if I used it for leverage.

Any ideas on how to grip and turn this top part?

Too wide unfortunately. Never seen those before, might have to get some they look like they'd come in handy for something some day!
