Single Handed Anchoring Sans Windlass

Thats the advantage of a vertical axis manual like the Anchorman. Although you have to get down on your knees, the recovery rate and effort with a 10 inch handle is good. I have the capstan on mine so the handle is well clear of the deck.

Never underestimate how easily an electric windlass can whip off a thumb or finger. If that happens (as it did to a friend's boss) then getting the anchor up may pale into insignificance compared to the problem of a mangled hand!

You don't need electric assistance to do that sort of thing. I nearly lost a finger trying to stop a free running chain once when I miss-placed a snubbing loop. Even standing on a running chain can be VERY dodgy! Do take care, the forces can be quite considerable.
