Since when has a force 6 been a gale?

I think a force 6 would become a gale as a result of Grace Darling spinning in her grave upon hearing that the former had been described as the latter.

Poor reporting by YBW?

These short stories (basically re-written press releases) on the website almost always have either silly mistakes or a naive quality that shows the writer knows nothing about the sea. Remember that YBW is a small part of a much larger publishing company, and it's quite normal for young journalism graduates to start work there without any prior knowledge or even interest in the subject. Guess which of the staff get the job of monitoring the RNLI twitter feed etc and knocking out a couple of hundred words ASAP?

I'd guess it's just a typo on the YBW page, as the RNLI coxswain said "the weather made the callout extremely challenging", which suggests more than force 6 winds

I imagine the photo is just a stock picture, but if not then it's certainly more than a F6 as well.

I'm think that's probably right. But, if the journos write bolleaux it surely must be our duty to make fun of them.
