Hi I'm looking for a charging unit, jack pin plug in, for a Simrad HS35 remote VHF radio. I believe they are no longer manufactured, I have the handheld cradle at the helm. What would be a suitable alternative to charge this.
Thanks.

Do you just need the cable or a complete charging cradle? The cradle is probably unique to the remote. If you just need the cable I suspect it will be a DC power connector available from CPC or various other suppliers. They come in various sizes with the common ones being 5.5mm OD and either 2.1mm or 2.5mm ID. Positive is usually the centre and negative the outside. I would hope that a Simrad unit would have reverse polarity protection if you get the polarity wrong but you would also need a small fuse.
Obviously better if you can find a cable to copy as it will be a small risk to try out a different one.

Thanks for reply. Yes cable only as I have the cradle mounted at helm. The cable has gone AWOL It is a small jack about 3.5mm dia the kind usually found on ear phones, I’m hoping other end is USB to connect to 12v power socket. Maybe someone of here has such a thing and could upload a picture of one, great help.

You can make the cable if you measure the hole and pin sizes, just buy the appropriate plug. The cable wouldn't normally have a plug on the other end, it would be hard wired to the boat, where was yours connected ?

It never would have had a USB plug on the other end and you cannot connect USB to a 12v power socket, this doesn't make any sense. USB is 5V, not 12V.

Doesn't the handset have a small USB socket ? You can use a standard USB cable from this to a USB socket.

A picture of the connections on the cradle and handset would be helpful.
