Does anyone know of any stockist of drive belts for Simrad Wheelpilot WP30?

Is there anyone in the Kent or Lancashire areas that can make the belts?

I'm back in UK for two weeks starting this Monday and would like to get hold of a couple if possible.

Thanks!

I believe it's a standard AT5 timing belt, 825mm long and 10mm wide. Any drive belt supplier should be able to source one for you.

Thanks pvb.

I don't know what a AT5 timing belt looks like and without spending an hour or two dismantling the wheelpilot I can't measure the existing belt. From memory.....it is about 10mm wide, flat in profile and could well be around the 825mm length that you quote. I remember it was an off white colour (not that it matters) and square toothed. Does that sound like it?

My belt broke this summer and blocked the steering wheel - we were just entering Deauville in the middle of the night in a rising wind. Nearly lost the boat. Had to use a lot of strength to get it loose. Succeeded about 10 yards from concrete blocks of the pier we were heading for.
Simrad told me I couldn't change the belt myself. Would cost me about 200 euro (nowadays the same amount in pounds).
Decided to buy a raymarine smartpilot instead.

Thanks again - that looks about right, but now having seen all the various lengths.....I'm flummoxed! Do you have first hand knowledge of the WP30 or are you guessing at the length. Sorry to be a pain!

HunterWanderer - it's neither slipping nor broken, but following my last experience of a broken belt in Ramsgate, and my intended route from here, I thought it may be wise to try and source a couple of spares whilst I can.

Blue_Fox......it's quite straight forward to change the belt, but Simrad 'dealers' told me in UK that you cannot change just the belt, but need to change the clutch as well. However, they were unable to locate a kit for me over a three week period and I ended up changing the whole pilot. Unfortunately, all my instruments are Simrad too, and all linked - the pilot is a boon when single-handed under engine, just punch in the waypoints on the GPS and it follows the route. Wish I had some other manufacturer though!!

[/ QUOTE ]No, I haven't used the WP30, but if you Google for info you'll find references to belt length, including this one. It doesn't specify the width, but if you look at the pic, 10mm width would be right, bearing in mind the tooth pitch is 5mm.

Thats a really cheap supplier. I will also get a couple as spares.

They are quite easy to fit despite what simrad say. Just slacken off the six screws three turns each and the clutch adjustment. Wriggle off the drum. Fit the new belt onto the pinion first then the drum and push the little wheels in as it goes on starting with the wheels nearest to the pinion. Tighten the 6 screws and its done. (Simrad - Whats the problem ?)
