I bought a Simrad CP32 colour plotter in June 2001, the unit has been back to the dealer more times than its been used, last season the boat barely left the marina, so the plotter remained wrapped in a towel in a dry bag which is kept in a cupboard inside the house.

Went to use it a couple of weeks ago and it wouldnt power up properly, so once again its gone back to Simrad for a repair

The problem ! ..........Water ingress !

HELLO....ITS ON A BOAT ! Its advertised as being water proof , its fitted to the dash on the proper mounts and behind the screen not on the consol of a rib

They now want £500.00 to repair it....Well SIMRAD can bugger off.

any recommendations for a new plotter !

Have a look at http://www.marinescene.co.uk. They've got some good deald on at the moment. If you choose the right one you should be able to use your existing charts.

I presume your C-Map Ctgs are NT+, in which case you would be able to use them in here which claims to be waterproof. I have a Navman 5500 and am very happy with it. It is sited near my helm and I have had not problems in last 18 months since purchase.

If theC-Map are not an exact match, then you can change them through Club-C-Map.

Can't agree about rubbish service. Contacted them about one of their inherited legacy products, 14 years old, and they provided a manual by return. Thats what I call service.
No connection of course.

Stick to Garmin, you get a quality product and a quality service. A Copper of the Thames River Police told me that on all their 'new' boats the only things that haven't gone wrong is their Garmin stuff.

After all the advice here, that's what I did, stick to Garmin. Bought a 182C at SIBS last years, So far it's great, works a treat, even get's WAAS, presumably from trial Inmarsat broadcasts.. When WAAS is enabled, accuracy is indicated down to 5ft.

I have always found Simrad to be very good, but clearly not with your product. I can understand your concern. I have had problems with Raymarine in the past although there has never been any question of a prompt free repair. They are generally highly regarded and the main boat manufacturers fit the as std.
