We have a Simrad NSS 8 chart plotter connected to a Airmar DST200 transducer for speed and depth readings. The speed reading is working accurately but we are not getting a depth reading. Having looked at the settings there is a Sources list and under this menu are sub-menus for all sorts including Boat Speed and Depth. Under Boat Speed the 'DST200' is the chosen source. Under Depth the chosen source is '[OFF] NR8 Echo [This Device]'. There is no option to change this to the DST200 or any other device (even though it appears that there should be).

We have no idea what the Depth source device is but are assuming this is why the depth display is not functioning correctly. We have no idea what the NR8 Echo is and given the system displays [OFF] in front of in the device list, can only assume it is not connected.

We have tried to change the chosen source device manually and via an automatic scan but the only option it offers us is the NR8 Echo.

Important to add that Speed and Depth have been working up to this point without any real issue and no hardware has been changed upto the point at which the Depth stopped reading. The boat is a Hanse 385.

We have tried a new DST200 and got the same results and have tried a new DST800 and got the same results.

If anyone has any suggestion and advice it would be really appreciated as we are out of ideas at this stage.

Have a look at pages 20 plus in the installation manual..available to download. The MFD has a built in echosounder which it looks like it sets as default. You need to change that to external source,it seems. I suspect somehow you have accidentally changed a setting...not that I would have ever done that,of course.
I d also just check NMEA 2k and 0183 settings, though if the speed is working, I would suspect it is just the source setting for depth.

In the end I had to replace the depth sounder in the forward cabin floor and reset the software another time and it picked up the replacement sounder and works fine now.
