Hi,

I have a Simrad handheld radio model HD52. It also has a charging cradle TC52 with NMEA input.

The cradle has a charging wire which is just a standard 12v red and black. It then has 2 wires for the nmea which are coloured red and blue with a shield. I am guessing red is nmea data input positive and the blue is nmea data output negative?

Does anyone know if that is correct(!) and also what NMEA standard it is? I',m guessing 0183.

TIA,
Matt

Just connect the NMEA wires as you've suggested, and see whether the radio gets a position. You can't do much harm. It will be NMEA0183.

Having got this functioning..... a new battery is £150!!! so I'll be relegating it to the bin by the looks of it and replacing with a new radio :(
My HD52 has just died - after a couple of seconds on transmit it goes blank. With nothing to lose, I prised open the plastic casing and found there are 6 x AA 2300 mAh NiMH batteries inside. I have ordered some replacements for less than £10 and will have effectively a new battery pack with a bit of basic soldering.
