Simrad/B&G UK stock levels

There’s no spare stock, no. As I said the stock goes directly to the people with orders in like myself because there’s a backlog. If you wait for stock you may well never receive a unit, but once ordered it will arrive if a little slower than we’d all like. If this was some old MAB where OP was adding to existing electronics what you’re saying might be reasonable. It’s a full refresh though so crazy to lose functionality for the sake of a few extra weeks wait. It’s also a 44 footer so very likely at some point to have an MFD at the chart table where it would be nice to have full control from. I only have a 36 but am glad of the extra position. I also love that firmware updates automatically because the MFD has WiFi. OP can make their own choices, I just wanted to make sure they’re not led astray by biased people with clear agendas.

I have no agenda, i have nothing to sell and it's makes no difference to me one way or another what the OP, or anyone else, buy. I'm simply providing accurate information so he can make an informed choice, rather than just spouting random nonsense based on zero knowledge of the current situation within the marine electronics sector.

I'm not the only one to pass on the proper state of affairs and it isn't my fault that you don't possess the ability to grasp it.

Saying the same nonsense over and over again doesn't change the fact that of the two of us, I'm the one with a newly installed B&G system. This includes a NAC 3 which I installed a couple of weeks ago, which I purchased recently and spoke direct to Navico about who were quite happy to give me accurate information about my order status and its location from factory right through to delivery into the retailer. They also gave an extremely good indication of lead times which were also accurate in every instance. I don't know who you're dealing with or why you're having a hard time communicating with them, but for me they were exceptionally good.
I don't need marine electronics qualifications to know how to buy things, common sense takes care of that one.

I deal with the same people the all of the big online sellers deal with, the sole UK distributor.

You are just one random bloke, on a random internet forum, who has a grand total experience of one boat.

You are also one of those people who will argue black is white, until the cows come home, so i'll leave you to it.

Perhaps you should try speaking to Navico then like I did as they were very helpful and had all the information I needed. I doubt the distributor will have access to this and probably won’t bother looking it up on your behalf. You may also want to improve your attitude as people are generally more willing to help people who are nice to deal with. I may just be some random bloke but it seems I’ve done better than you in this regard.

Do you seriously think that the sole UK distributor will not have access to Navico, but you will ? How deluded.

The results would suggest so, yes. You're unable to get stock or information while I got both quite easily. Must be very frustrating for you.

I can't comment on the availability of marine electronics for the leisure industry, but I work for a large global marine company in the commercial (shipping) world. Anything with a semi-conductor in it is at risk now, but some brands are harder to get than others. For some areas of business, the forecast for availability of chips is 2-3 days as these are being bought on the spot market and being used to fulfill orders form the very, very large global players.

One example is that Ford have several hundred thousand cars being stockpiled at Kentucky speedway awaiting chips. As soon as they can get some, the cars are finished and then shipped out to dealers. So if you brand of marine electronics happens to use the same semi-conductor brand as Ford, then who do you think will get priority...? And this is the same for all of the major automotive, consumer electronic and aerospace companies.

The global shortage is down to a number of reasons - post-pandemic recovery initiatives, shipping delays, Covid is still an issue in some regions where these are made/packaged, and consumer demand.

As someone else said - patience is the game here. Or find an alternative in the meantime
