My boat is fitted with a Simpson and Lawrence SL 400 toilet which is in need of maintenance. I understand that the firm went into receivorship a couple of years back. I want to find out if spares kits - gaskets etc - are still available. My local chandlers were not able to help. I would be very grateful for and advice.
Thanks,

Dave

a few chandlers still have overhaul kits (gaskets, springs etc.) otherwise yacht parts of plymouth cornered the remaining spares when SL went bust.

once the remaining spares are gone, you'll have to replace the whole thing.

the most frequent faulure is the hair spring on the inlet valve which breaks with depressing regularity. it should be possible to get new ones made to keep you going for a while.

Yacht Parts of Plymouth - Yuk , Hate, Feeling of sickness coming on. Watch the postage charges. They really rack it up. I ordered some toilet spares. The postage was £1.30, the Jiffy bag maybe 60p but £10 postage charge.
When I needed more spares I went to their supplier with no problems. Yacht Parts have lost my business for ever more. (When I complained they were disinterested.)

I noticed at the LIBS that Lee Sanitation were marketing the simpson lawrence toilet under their own name and also calling it the "SL 400". It seemed identical to the one I have and the chap on the stand assured me that the parts were interchangeable and that they are supplying spares. Their tel no. is 01295 770000.
hope that helps

great news, many thanks.

btw, SL used to make 2 versions, the SL400 was low-profile, only 6ins from mounting flange to seat while the less popular SL401 had a taller bowl. almost all the parts were interchangeable.

Grimmy,

Many thanks for the information. I'll give them a try. Bucket and chuckit is becoming a bit primitive!

Thanks again.

Looks like you were looking for similar information. I have the low profile model. It will be a relief to get it working again effectively.

Many thanks for the information. I'll be aware but no doubt they in this case will have a captive market. It's obviously not going to be acase of just 'spending a penny.
