simplle boat

I am an aussie who has gotten the virus of wanting to build a boat. It will be my first boat, So I am looking at getting a smaller boat, no bigger than 20ft and built from plans. If anyone can point me in the direction of somewhere where I can get the plans of a simple boat to build, just a sail boat and will be sturdy and easy to sail and sails quite well in all conditions. Something to just sail around on a lake, river or whatever. I do have a friend who is doing an apprecticeship with a boatbuilding place where they do wooden boats, and he has done a couple boats himself. So if I get into trouble, he could help me.

Hi I can recomend Selway Fisher. A small fee buys you a catalogue of plans giving many happy hours of perusal and planning the perfect boat for you. I have built four from this designer oo and you can speak to him personally.

There are active Wooden Boat Associations in each state, and these are your best first port of call. I am in Melbourne, and am active in the Victorian WBA. Check the website www.woodenboat.org.au for addresses, phone numbers of contacts, and meeting times and venues.
