Oki Im gonna be lazy plus i dont have alot of spare time and on Friday want to simply go into the Chandlers and just buy the correct size wires for the following items so I can get this boat rewired and move on to other jobs

1) USB power points charging only for phones & Laptops etc
2) LED Bow & Stern Nav Lights
3) Nasa Clipper Duet Depth/Speed
4) lED Mast Steaming/Deck Light
5) LED Mast Top Tri-Color

I know there is a calculator online but that involves knowing the power output of each item which I dont have time to find out.. So to keep it simple what size wires have you used for similar applications/reccomendations..

I know there are other componenents I will need but these are the basics to get started

Many Thanks

Nothing on your list takes much more than about 0.25 amp so current carrying capacity or even allowances for voltage drop hardly come to the equation. Heavy enough to be physically robust will be the main concern.

1.5mm² as PVB suggests will be adequate,. 1.0 mm² for protected internal wiring will be sufficient and may well make life easier to install. Bundles of heavy cable can get quite bulky!

It should of course be flexible cable, not the solid conductor stuff used for house wiring.

For 12 volt use the "thin wall" cable will be suitable and perhaps easier to install than cable with insulation rated for 240 volt mains use. It is a tougher grade of PVC, I believe, so physical robustness is not compromised by being thinner.

Thanks guys thats perfect.. Will look into other sources and hopefully get it cheaper

Regards

There are dozens of websites that will sell cable, aiming mainly at old cars with a nod to boats. Easily found with a websearch. It's worth comparing a few (and take into account the cost of postage as some have lower prices and higher postage than others). I've used www.12vplanet.co.uk a few times recently, so can recommend them.

Tinned from 12 volt planet ????

My first place to check would be Furneax Riddall They definitely sell tinned but range of sizes may be limited

Another vote for 12v planet.
Their prices are pretty good and they stock pretty much everything you might need.

I just got my last batch of tinned cable and heat shrink terminals from them.

ITYMF that Furneaux Riddall might have been cheaper, although 12V planet do seem to offer "extra flexible" cable

I do have some Yorkshire ancestry you know. To avoid the risk of any forefathers spinning in their graves I looked through four or five sites at the time to see which one had everything I wanted and was the cheapest including postage (which as I warned the OP above is a gotcha on some sites). I'd also got a 10% discount code for 12V planet which helped.

Had a look on the Pirates Cave website which is local to me and where I do most of my shipping anyway. They have 1.0mm tinned flat core for 0.79p and 1.5mm for 1.17 so will likely just pick it up there and getting on with the job saturday helps anyways..

Thanks for the suggestions will definately use in future.

Regards.
