With too many millibars and the 'greys' of probability etc I really do find it a bit-to-much and sort-of lose-it after about thirty seconds .... sorry .... :(

All I want is direction, speed, strength, sea-state and precipitation (snow/fog/etc) ...... possibly time and percentage as well.

I really don't care if the 'Jet Stream' is changing direction and height .... all I would seriously like is the afore mentioned and times of change etc.

'KIS' ...... is the way to go for me ..... & thanks! :)

Hold a piece of seaweed at arms length.

If it hangs down, there is no wind.

If it gets wet, its raining.

If you cant see it, its foggy.

Hope this helps.

Don't listen to him Simon. I don't understand it all, but a little bit seeps in each time.

I quite agree, I have learned a huge amount watching Simon's videos. If you want dumbed down watch a forecast on TV, I like the background information
that you don't normally get.

Keep up the good work, Simon.

Well! ... I've been advised by Searush (in the past) to use wool on the stays for direction and seaweed for weather prediction by CS ... so! ... I think I'm sorted! .... ;-)

See http://www.xcweather.co.uk/forecast/troon and http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast_and_sea/inshore_waters/14#selected-location
Enjoy.

EDIT:
If you can't see Arran; it is raining. If you can, it is going to rain.

I think they're great as they are. I start watching them in earnest about a week before I plan a trip to help me decide where to go trailer sailing. I actually feel as though I understand the weather now, too.

I always make sure I click through to a few advertisers sites to ensure that Simon keeps doing them.

What I really like is the confidence factor and I wish more forecasters would use it. What I want to know is what they think the weather will be and how likely that is to happen.

What I don't like is the word "unsettled" when they mean continuous rain.

Anyone wanting a dumbed down forecast should just switch the TV on just after the news at around 22.30, there some tart will stand in front of a chart, wave her arms around and read from a script.

No, dont dumb down please Simon, we learn lots from every video.

I rather like that - a Chart Tart indeed!

In contrast to which Our Simon is a purveyor of first class understanding of this most uncertain, complex of phenomena - in which learning I occasionally indulge, even if it does hurt my second-class brain a little.

You take from a forecast what you need & what suits your position & situation.
There will always be info that is of no use to you but may be of great interest to others.
To dumb it down as the OP is calling for would mean others may loose a valuable source of Wx info.
If the OP finds it hard to understand then I suggest he purchases some of Simons books & vid
to give him a better understanding.

I've learnt a lot watching Simon's forecasts. I still use Windguru etc for a quick reference although Weatherweb has charts a plenty if you explore the links down the left.
