Similar story to Dylan regarding Paypal

I also had a good result from Ebay / Paypal. Bought an item, but it never showed up. Waited the appropriate time, no goods. Raised a complaint with Ebay, and they refunded.
Then, a month after that (now nearly 3 months after "purchase", the good showed up. My offer to pay again went ingnored.

I have a small online business and use paypal as a means of accepting payment both direct and on Ebay. We have conducted over 15,000 problem free transactions. In fact the only problem we have had (recently too) was a guy who legitimately paid for his ebay item via paypal but from an overseas internet cafe. It was picked up as dubious and the money was held for several weeks until his identity was confirmed. pretty reasonable I thought. As a small business, paypal is way cheaper than having your own credit card facilities too.
I agree that getting to speak to anybody who makes sense can be very difficult - a common feature of online businesses of any kind. Ebay are easier now than they were a few years back although paypal still not good. As a powerseller/top rated seller you have direct phone support on an immediate person to person basis.

After many years of using a credit card machine and processing on line transactions manually my company changed to an on-line only credit card system using Paypal for processing our web shop transactions.

All went well until we made some shop changes and the only way we could test the process through was to make three or four test purchases using my own credit card and then credit the transactions back.

Big mistake, this must have flagged something at PayPal security and they now hold back 15% of each transaction for 3 months before the funds are available to us. In our case this adds up to a significant amount of money, luckily we are in a healthy situation and we can stand this, for many companies it could cause severe cash flow problems and put them out of business.

We have a PayPal Business Manager who cannot help and can only refer us to another team, its not possible to talk to them - only email and most times they dont reply.

This has been going on for the best part of a year and they refused even to consider changing their policy until after 6 months, this was up in November, we chased them then and they told us that as they are busy over Christmas they wont consider our appeal until February.

700 through paypal

300 transactions as a buyer and seller through ebay & paypal, no problems yet.

no problems yet either

I would rather hand my credit card details to one organistaion than scores

I have teenagers - they range the web like feral cats

I can keep tabs on where they spend money

when a payment appears for music or mobile phone batteries they come to me and give me the cash

so far it has been brilliant

in testing the KTL website - about sailing around the UK just to keep this subject close to sailing - we ran several test runs using our paypal accounts - mine and Joe Moore who made my website

-he is small boat sailor and a really clever bloke - http://www.josephmoore.co.uk/

everything went smoothly

on the $4.99 for a three month pass for KTL they charge me 30 cents for each transaction

if the transaction is undone then the do not charge me

how good is that

I buy all my chandlery on line _ feel sorry for chandlers with shops - so I try to buy from on-line chandlers with shops as well.

I have a film on youtube about starlings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH-groCeKbE

they are the birds that poop on your boat when its ashore in winter

half a million hits - sold the footage to several countries - paid by paypal from Poland, Japan, USA, Germany - payments came through no problems

- also sold the footage to a French company - they did not pay up - ah well. The French.

Amazingly, since google killed my adsense account and seized my money , they continue to place adverts against this film and continue to trouser the revenue.

so for me

google - not good, very much not good, Bad words for them

Paypal - great - for me - nothing but praise - bit I might have been lucky

I think the point of my anecdotal story is that when things go wrong when dealing with these enormous net companies, it is nigh on impossible to get through to a human being that can overide the computer. The moral of it BEWARE!
