I am going to be sailing in French waters for two weeks, in two weeks time. My Dad is unwell and I expect to make and receive lots of phone calls. What is the cheapest SIM card deal for a French PAYG package?

Thanks

PAYG in France

You've opened a bit of a can of worms mate. Have a look at lefrenchmobile.com and also if you have a bit of understanding of the language try BforYou.fr. The deal is unlimited landline calls to the UK amongst other places. 3 Gig of data and lots of other stuff. By the way when reading about data etc on a French Web site 3 Gb is 3 Go. The cost is 19.9 euros a month on a no contract basis.

I found Bouygues the cheapest, but suspect you'll find the saving, over the short period you're using it will be less than the cost and hassle of getting it. France is one of the most expensive European countries for mobile telecommunications.

I have an Orange contract for my mobile phone and they have add on packages for 'Europe Traveller' and 'Worldwide Traveller'. Basically the first 1000 minutes made (France to UK) are cheaper and first 1000 minutes of calls received are free. It costs £5.10 for one month (useful if you are only away for one month) or £10.20 monthly. Can't quite remember the cost of the calls but think it was about 26p to make calls (after discount) and texts are 10p. Obviously this info is not very helpful if you don't have an Orange package!
