Man buys boat; thoughtfully spends in order to get it how he wants; does lots of boating with family and friends.

Nice article in new MBY. Reminded me that that's what it's all about.

As you may or may not know Silver Dee is JFMs brother.

The refit was extensive and when you consider that the total costs came in at £422k for what is basically a new boat including stabilisers it is interesting how the maths stack up ( I would have thought the numbers looked far worse!) I would imagine a "new" boat to the same spec would be around double that.

Looks lovely and form the journey description it can clearly take the sea!

There was an uncosted "DIY" item in the totting up. I figured the manmath factor was somewhere around about there...

Even allowing for man maths, £300k seems a remarkably modest sum for the amount of work carried out. Lovely boat for not a huge amount of money in boating terms. A new 50ft bluewater displacement hulled boat would cost at least £1m

Thank you benjenbav and others for kind words. I never saw it as a sane investment in the financial sense.
admillington - really grateful for that video clip of Silver Dee in days gone by and yes Lady Coppelia is a fine looking vessel. Looking back the whole project though time consuming was fun. It was nice to be doing work on the boat with our dad and brother and the team at West coast in Troon are superstars. Certainly no regrets about move to Med from uk waters- only scratched the surface of places to see in 2 seasons (darn work) but already in love with Corsica to name one destination. Our thoughts turning to a bigger boat maybe (larger hole in the water for the £50 notes)?

No worries there, you'll find as many as you wish.
With boats, no matter how many disposable notes you've got, you'll always find a hole large enough to take them all....!

I also read the article, a remarkable effort and a great boat indeed! :encouragement:

PS: talking of large holes in the water, I just got an email from De Valk mentioning, among other stuff, a big price reduction on this proper small ship... Just a thought!

Actually, I'm one of those (not many admittedly, here in the asylum - as opposed to the other side of the Pond) who think that the pros of single screw outweigh the cons, in a boat like that.
If a robust, commercial single engine is good enough for folks who MUST be offshore with just about any weather, it's good enough for me.
...But that's an entirely new thread altogether - not that it would be the first one, btw! :)
