Did you actually manage to get it fixed under warranty?
I once had two new Silva compasses fail. When I tried to get them replaced or repaired their attitude was " our products don't fail, so if you have a broken one you must have done it deliberately".
I've never bought any of their products since.

We (at the club) have their cheapo handheld VHF (Silva S12?) - we're on the third one now - the other two replaced without question or charge - 1 failed due to battery problems, it wouldn't transmit on high power after a full charge - had to wait for it to discharge for a day!! and the second failed on a similar problem - after a charge the speaker didn't work, unless you pressed down on the case .... we've since purchased a spare battery for our Navico HH - big as a brick - but it works.
On the otherhand, another of our members has his own Silva HH VHF and has no problems with it - but then it is as a spare on board and not used in a 4m rib 3 times a week ...
Personally I would not buy silva electronics - because I've had a bad experience with them (the ICOM M1V-Euro is a superb bit of kit - twice the price maybe but no hasstle!) but I cannot fault their (Silva's) service - quick and no hasstle.
I don't know what their fixed equip is like - only going by the HH ...
