Silly hoses at Suffolk Yacht Harbour

No nozzles at Ipswich Haven Marina. And as that is inside a lock the water must be even more suspect. H&S would seem to suggest Suffolk Yacht Harbour have a point. Maybe the Inspectors haven't got this far.

Well, not me.

I consider water hoses to be an integral part of the service when we're berthed in a marina.
We're a somewhat larger than average boat - the water intake is somewhat aft of midships. This means that I already need 7-8m of hose to reach the pontoon.
And there on average two water taps per pontoon, and somehow we're never berthed right next to one.
The prospect of having to wrestle 20-25 meters of hose every time we want to take on water does not appeal.
 
But surely you already have to wrestle the hose from the tap to the boat anyway? The hose I carry is a flow through reel hose which take no wrestling at all! (I've recently added one of those expanding x-hoses as we're a too far from the tap for our main hose to reach on our trial mud berth - the jury is out on that 'cos I think I'd have been better off with a second reel hose in practice)

And I have the comfort of knowing that my hoses are clean, have never been dropped in the water, and have never been used to flush out holding tanks, peed on by dogs (or humans) or any other similarly disgusting activity!

Dunno, don't care. I don't intend to be the first! :D

It's interesting that nobody thinks twice about using their own hose on the inland waterways, it's just routine because hoses have never been provided at canalside water taps. It simply doesn't bother me in the least to use our own hose

Quite the same in France.
Belgium & Holland provide them with out nozzles

1. We do carry a hose of our own (12 metre on a reel). However, unless we're berthed in the immediate vicinity of a water tap, it's rarely long enough.
2. The room the bottled water takes up deminished over the season. A 25 meter hose takes up (a lot of) room all the time.
 
We've got one of those wind-up reels. It must be about the fiftieth we've had because they always fail, and it can be a pain to reel, but it doesn't take much space. I like the idea of a short length of hose to replace the spray head though.

for my own hose i do the same but with the all new marina hoses that isnt possible & i like the idea of a hose on the pontoon as it is very convenient

See my earlier post - you can adapt the nozzles to take your own hoselock fitting so that you can fill with water without it going everywhere.
 
Here we are at Bradwell. No hoses but you can borrow one from the office. Seems sensible although I must admit to owning my own which came with the boat and has never been used.

There should be a hose reel on each pontoon, certainly were when we were there a few weeks ago. You might have to look for it, and it is possible that a lazy so and so has taken one from an adjacent pontoon 'cos it was nearer and not bothered to put it back.
