Well in this crazy world this takes some beating. A young thug in S Wales has just been let off over £400 of motoring fines by magistrates for keeping silent for 30 minutes.

I don't recall being given that option when I got my last speeding ticket, also in S Wales. But then I suppose driving without a licence, insurance or MOT is all fairly small beer compared to exceeding the speed limit on a motorway by 18 mph.

Now where can I find a job that pays in excess of £800 per hour for keeping quiet, there must be some government dept that needs me, hopefully with a fully funded pension chucked in.

Dunno the details

Sounds like a fine default case so perhaps he had been arrested and had already had a night in chokey before court case.

What tends to happen is that someone gets nicked for driving offence, never turns up to answer summons, gets fined in absence, never pays and then gets nicked for default. Then turns out they are on benefit and should have had a smaller fine so fine remitted to level they should have had and very short period of detention as a slap on wrist for defaulting.

It really is quite difficult to get a serious sentence for fine default.
