Sikkens v decks oil v bare wood?

Just to confuse things further, I see that Epifanes also have what seems to be a comparable product, Rapidcoat (or Rapidclear for a non-tinted version). As I've been using buckets of their traditional varnish on my masts and spars, with good results, I'm tempted to try the Rapid products for the other woodwork. Unless anyone has any horror stories?

Cheers,

Pete

Cheers - so that's one vote for the "Cetol Marine" from you. My point is that other people are using other things (as posted after yours) but the waters are being muddied by everybody calling them all "Sikkens".

I've only ever heard that on here, and I'd be interested to hear where it comes from. I first read it back around October, but last week Force 4 still had it on the shelves and told me they'd had recent deliveries and hadn't heard anything about it being stopped. I've been holding off using it on my cockpit seats as it'll need recoating in years to come, which is no good if I can't buy it any more, but so far I've seen no indication of it outside these forums.

It was probably a post of mine you read back in October.
It is seemingly one of a range of Sikkens products being discontinued by Akzo Nobel see http://www.boatpaint.co.uk/acatalog/Sikens_High_quality_varnishes.html

It's not now on International Yachtpaints' website ( but the new website is such a pile of poo that its difficult to find anything!)

You wont find it on Sikkens website now either http://www.sikkens.co.uk/en/Products/Alphabetical/index.htm

Used Cetol Marine on my Corribee (Iroko?) external woodwork last year, and was absolutely delighted with the result. Still looked great after 1 year, easy to touch up, and easy to take off if required.
I made a panic buy when I read last year's posts heralding its demise. Does anyone know for certain if it's been reprieved?
