Hi All;

I've seen some reference here of repairing a Zodiac with Sikaflex, since the Zodiac material is PVC and Sikaflex is PVC based i would think this product would adhere to the Zodiac material rather well........any more info out there?

Thanks;

we were advised by a Zodiac agent to give our old tender an extra 6 months life, it does work, but needs to be quite thick wher the holes leaks are as the pressure stretches it when cured.

I hope Sikaflex 221 isn't PVC based. When I last checked it was acrylic. I'm using it in an application where PVC is absolutely forbidden.. and £50M of equipment would either be scrapped or subject to £5M cleaning.

Regards

Richard.

Hi Boat one!

My first reaction is a screaming ..... DON'T! Yes, Sikaflex does adhere amazingly well to Zodiac material, BUT, if you ever want to get at the fabric/leak again, it's almost impossible to do without severe damage. A few years ago I bought a secondhand Zodiac from a Dutchman who was a director of the Sikaflex company. Because he got the stuff for nothng, he'd plastered every dubious seam/leak with the stuff.

Me, not knowing better, thought it was a good buy and that I'd just have to remove the mastic and repair the thing properly to have a super dinghy. Not so, it took days and days of really hard work and still ended up looking bodged. And I never cured the leaks totally.

So, if you are sure you won't want another go later AND can ensure that your mastic repair WILL stop the leak, go ahead. If not, I'd buy the proper two part repair adhesive and do it properly!

Hope this helps
