Apparently the law requires us - in addition to creating a passage plan and carry a radar reflector, we are now required to carry SIGNAL CHARTS. What are they???

It's a pictorial aid to a series of gestures made by/to aircraft to indicate messages like "Follow me", "understood", "go away" and the like. I cannot imagine who thought them up or why. One thing is for certain, they are far from intuitive so you will need the chart to understand what is being gestured, should the occasion ever arise.

Thanks for that - I think they are detailed in Macmillans (on the boat so I cannot check) in which case I'm legal!!!!

If it's the law then you can bet the chandlers will be full of them before long. But one, stick it in your chart table then forget about it.

Most charter companies have found a flat spot for mounting them them. The back of the loo door seems popular. Something to think about when your in there.

I like the one which says "don't land here, it's not safe" presumably they use that one a lot in the Solent<s>
