Sigma 36 anchor locker bung?

Hi all,
New to me Sigma 36, been poking around all the lockers and seeing what’s what.
Came across a few inches of water in the very bow end of forepeak. It looks like it has seeped through the bulkhead that butts up to the anchor locker.
When I looked where the anchor chain was it seems to have a false floor as it is fairly shallow.
Back to the inside and there is a bung at the base of the very forward bulkhead, I’m guessing all this (fresh) water is rain from the bottom of the anchor locker?. Never seen this setup before.

Sigmas were built by Marine Projects in Plymouth along with several other makes like Moody. Many of the fittings and internal finish are identical.

We have a false floor in our anchor locker to raise the height above the water line enabling rain or saltwater to freely drain overboard. Sounds like yours has after many decades suffered a breach in the GRP/plywood enabling water to penetrate through. You need to be brave, investigate further and remove any wet plywood then replace. This is a DIY fix if you don't mind some work glass fibre work. An angle grinder will be your friend.

Does the anchor locker have a decent sized locker lid to gain access?

I sailed a Sigma 36 years ago, nice boat and went well.

I would check how the locker drains. I mentioned on the chain marking thread about paint flakes?

I know some boats of that era.....Moody....the locker drains right through to the saloon bilge. Unheard of these days, but worth checking?
 
Yes - just poke a freshwater hose in the locker and we if the drain holes work or when the water goes. No need to be too aggressive with the water.

I suspect the locker might benefit from have a fresh water wash any way. Damp lockers, damp from sea water, is the death knell for chain. Keep the locker, aired, dry and clean. Separate the rope from the chain - the ropes hold water - which adds to the risk of chain corrosion.
