Saw what I can only describe as a sideways herb garden on the beach today:

It's permanant. Are those all varieties of plants that like salt water? If so what? It was above the high tide mark but must see a lot of salt spray on high tides with onshore winds. Can someone even begin to explain this madness?

Not a good idea at all...causes damp an deterioration that later on is very expensive to put right....brick replacement...pointing...etc.,

I doubt that building is made of brick.

No doubt the plants are part of some expensive specially-designed "system", probably German, coming soon to a Grand Designs episode near you :)

Far nicer than a wall or a fence isn't it? I suspect they are all salt tolerant, but there is clearly a raincatcher arrangement at the top to keep it naturally watered. I think it is a lovely idea. Good luck to them.

It didn't look like it was intended to be a wall or provide protection. It was the size of maybe one standard garden fence panel. Now I think about it, it could have been the begining of a wall under construction or it could be that one slot in the boat park needed more protection than the others.

I got the impression it was more to do with nurturing the plants than building a barrier, now I'm less sure.

Perhaps a test panel to see if the idea works before building the whole wall?
