That ought to replace that dodgy Volvo! Surely this can't be as good as a pair of oars?

£125

I can see two design flaws. You need to sit sideon to get max power from your arm. This means us fat bastids put too much weight on one side of the dinghy. Next, as you push the crank away and then pull it towards yourself, you will also be turning the whole gizmo like a tiller.
There's much room for improvement.

I suspect it's close to useless. This video shows it in action, although the guy seems confused by clockwise and anti-clockwise, so that may give a clue to his intelligence.

I think it must be KTL industries at it again.

PBO should definitely try this out against a trolling motor and some oars.

This is a sad story for KTL Industries

as head of the mighty corporation it gives me no pleasure to admit that just six months ago two of our boffins - Dr Philimanjaro Montefiore and Professor Slingula Tarantula came to me with this idea

then it was called the ZEBO

zero emmisions boat outboard

I looked at their drawings

I said that it is a ludicrous idea and sacked both of them on the spot

clearly they have taken their idea elsewhere

that is loyalty for you!

ah well - win some lose some

a reasonable sustained output by ahuman being i 125Watts (e.g. cyclist.

Let's be charitable and assume that the driver produces 1/2 of that using his arms. That's 0.094 horsepower. Without losses in transmission or propeller..

A much better system would be a pedal crank or a whipstaff.

One that worked like a reclining bicycle might be OK, but I think pair of oars might still win. Come to think of it my dinghy has a couple of oar like things in its bag. I woder if they are any good without the advantage of a 3 to 1 gear ratio. :D

Looked at one of these last month at the chandlery in Bucklers Hard. The helpful guy in the shop had tried it, said it worked ok but needed to be mounted with great rigidity. Something to do with torque on the winding handle??
