Going down to Southampton on Saturday lunchtime, we have a camper, which we can sleep in! Any ideas where would be good to stay overnight?

Pub campsite any recommendations welcome?

Is any one else doing a similar thing?

Tom

We will be going to the show on Saturday, and staying on the boat in Ocean Village. Why not leave your van in the "Pay and Display" carpark at OV marina, and join us for a drink or 3 in the evening?

Ho hum; I'm not sure I'd recommend parking overnight anywhere in Southampton.

Not sure what the different rules are, but I've seen camper vans in the following places nearby that are quite nice, location wise:

Lepe Country Park (foot of Beaulieu River but a fair way from any pub)
Car Park next to Hamble Point Marina (Looks over Southampton water, but zero facilities)
Royal Victoria Country Park, Netley (also looks over So'ton Water)
Public Car Park on Hamble Waterfront, next to slipway and overlooking the River. (Choice of pubs nearby Olde Whyte Harte my personal favourite).

Dunno if you can overnight at any of them.

Someone on here mentioned a campsite close to Mercury Yacht Harbour, a while back. If you want to go a bit further afield, there are some nice camping sites in the New Forest (particularly Fritham, Ocknell and [££££££] Sandy Balls).

Southampton Common/The Avenue is probably the most scenic area of Town, but I think you will encounter a combination of posh local residents mistaking you for Travellers, and various types of pondlife who will be after your money, your possessions and possibly your virtue /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

For easiest access to the show I would suggest the campsite in Ashurst just after the bridge. Its close to a pub ( New Forest Inn, I think).

The advantage is that its a straight 10 - 15 minute drive into Southampton from there ie you don't even have to turn off the road. Its also next to a pub that serves food in the evening and this time of year shouldn't be too busy.

You should be able to find it on the Forestry Commission website.

If Terry speaks nicely to Bill/Kevin, he might even let you put it in the carpark next to Harbour Lights, have seen him allow it before. (Sylvies got one parked behind one of the containers) I know the security guards are a bit hot on "overnight stayers" (unless they've clamped them of course) in Pay & Display have seen some of the Challenge boats guests being questioned before now. Just a thought and could save some dosh!! Paul
