SOME ONE MUST HAVE BOUGHT A BOAT

A gilet with built-in buoyancy - I usually wear a gilet in the cold weather and have been concerned at the risk of falling into the marina in the cold weather when there are few people around to hear me and the pontoons are slippery.

New pair of navy blue braided mooring lines, 10m 14mm £35

Lunch for 2 at holiday inn £20

2x Boing rope bracelets (gifts for daughter & swmbo) £55

Parking £5

I thought I had gotten off lightly!

I get free parking (I arrive by boat), bring my lunch with me, drinks in the fridge, and then take the boat home again. Fantastic :)

I bought a new liferaft though - £1700 - at least I didn't have to carry it back to the car. 60 kg was hard enough to carry down the pontoon!!

Yes. Life rafts are surprisingly heavy. The pic on ours shows a person lofting it into the water. Some chance!

Can I ask which stand you bought these from as I'm looking for the same when I go to the show on Friday.

Cheers, Allan

Cricky, that's a tricky one… all they sold was rope, had black banner with yellow writting , pretty sure it was in the holiday inn park, it was between a big cookware stand and was near the joules clothing stand.

you should have seen us getting it up onto the flybridge. And being new we didn't want to scratch it!

I have taught on boats where the keep a canister raft in the bottom of the lazarette, with not enough room to stand next to it so you have to grab it from below yourself if you see what I mean. Absolutely zero chance of getting it out if you're having the sort of day that needs a life raft.........

The rope stand was excellent value with 50% off marked prices. One of the very few bargains I saw at the show.

I was very impressed with a methanol powered fuel cell, very tempted, but at £3,500, a bit rich for me :(

I got quite excited about those for a while until I worked out how much methanol you need to run them. A litre per KwH, and you have to buy pure methanol from them at £30 for 5 litres. It also seems that if you run them all the time the whole unit needs replacing after a year. The idea of generating electricity on board with zero noise is very attractive though, if bulk supplies could be made available dockside at sensible cost.

I bought an expanding hose pipe instead
