Went today with mate and his son. Had a great time sniffing over the Fairline range, (thanks to Trevor Betts for the free run), Sealines, (thanks to Clive Nightingale), Princess,s, Sunseekers etc etc ..was GREAT to have time to browse, dribble and dream over the plastic..mates son wants one of EVERYTHING !!!!!!....................... ANYWAY...this all gets tiring, hungry and thirsty work.... so we did what I and NUMEROUS others have done over 25+yrs of SIBS..we sat on the wall behind the Volvo penta stand with a few other weary pairs of feet....."OI..OI...OI...EXCUSE ME, YOU CANT SIT THERE"......don't worry he,s not talking to us??!!... 10secnds later same security bod comes round and says "NO SITTING OR EATING OR LOITERING HERE IN CASE YOU SLIP INTO THE WATER!!!..... IT COULD CAUSE YOU TO SLIP AND FALL INTO THE WATER AND HURT YOURSELVES!!!!!... WHAT CAN????....SITTING HERE EATING AND DRINKING!!!!!.....then his backup arrives and says "every thing under control"?? "are you moving them out"?.......luckily we were just about done anyway so slowly packed up and left...leaving others to question the pointlessness......HEALTH n SAFETY ???????.....STUFF IT UP YER AR*E..........moan switch off "click"!
 
We were sat eating at a table, some of the event staff were hanging around in a corner eating pizza and were talking about the health and safety police!

I'd be no good as 'elf n safety' police...... If I'd had seen you, I'd of pushed you in (not mark and his son though, they don't eat all my sweets) and then when I'd finished laughing at you....... I might of helped you you!! :)

More likely to be injured by flying exhibits, should the 50knt wind arrive today as promised.
 
I have a theory that HSE officials are destroying the natural balance of the Earth by disrupting natural selection.
I was previously employed aboard a dockyard tug. This was a conventional twin screw vessel with no towing winch etc which required a very high level of seamanship to work the ropes, bending them on to bitts and cleats whilst running under load (fast hands required). It was also common practice to have to walk along the gunwales to secure to dock gates that needed moving or to stand on the bow fenders and rubbing strakes to facilitate jumping onto bouys, barges, quaysides etc. we were basically what the HSE pen pushers called a nightmare. After many attempts to reign us in with new rules, new equipment, new clothes etc most of which we duly float tested when no one was looking. The HSE boss man told us he was basically going to forget we existed as his nerves couldn't handle watching us work.Yet, we had by far the best safety record of any department in the yard! Why? I like to think its because we all knew what we were doing, we all watched each others back and what looked like a chaotic riot to the untrained pen pusher from HSE was actually a well choreographed and practiced performance.

I fear though that the lunatics will win.
 
French @ Cannes where v relaxed re HSE stuff.
You could clamber all over the boats , up front , on the flys, and even into engine rooms .
Last time I was at SIBs ( last Y) - a lot of forward areas were taped off and they often refused a peep ,nether mind a crawl into the engine hatch .
